Liquid Class and Labware Definitions
Many scientists working with liquid handling equipment do not realize the necessity for accurate liquid class and labware definitions. These critical requirements are often overlooked, but are the foundation of any automated process.
SOLID FOUNDATIONS -> ACCURATE RESULTS
The correct use of these parameters is what allows the machine to correctly perform your science.
Liquid Classes
Unlike manual pipetting, automated liquid handlers must be provided specific parameters for each type of liquid. Improper Liquid Classes can result in drastically inaccurate volumes from an otherwise properly functioning system. Telos has developed a comprehensive procedure for Liquid Class optimization that provides validated results for your specific application.
Labware Definition
Many of the movements of automated liquid handlers are controlled by the stored geometries of the labware being used. Often referred to as “Labware Definitions”, these geometries control not only how the pipetting tip locates the center of a container but also how the tip moves relative to the liquid during aspirating and dispensing.
Many labware definitions are created by trial and error. This approach can take a great deal of time and is often inaccurate due to the complexities of the internal geometry. Small errors in defining labware can have a significant effect on the accuracy of liquid transfers. Telos has developed sophisticated tools and methods to accurately determine the dimensions of any labware type or configuration.
